AMIRA P1025 "Interoperability" project successfully kicks-off

AMIRA International's P1025 - Interoperability project was officially started on 3rd September and is currently supported by five Sponsor organisations: BHP Billiton, MMG, Rio Tinto, Roy Hill Holdings and GMSG (Global Mining Standards and Guidelines Group).

At the Kick-off meeting, all Sponsors agreed that interoperability can be defined as: "The ability of information and communication technology (ICT) systems and the business processes they support, to exchange data and to enable the sharing of information and knowledge.  This in turn provides the ability of systems and organisations to seamlessly work together (inter-operate)."

The project aims to identify and leverage the many disparate past and present initiatives aimed at interoperability, develop a set of guiding principles for improved interoperability and determine whether increased efforts are needed to support the evolving requirements of mining companies for major technology based transformations.

It was great to see that all companies were aligned in terms of their expectations from the project and agreed on the following key business drivers for improved interoperability in mining:
  • End-to-end process integration
  • Remote operations
  • Multi-vendor equipment automation
  • Collection, management and analysis of field data
The project will remain open for sponsorship for the next 2 months, so if your company is interested in joining the project or if you would like to obtain more information, please contact AMIRA Program Managers:
